For two years, the Rapha Flyweight have been my faithful companions during my training as a cyclist. An elegant, very light glasses that offers an unbeatable field of vision.
The only downside I can put is that its rounded shapes take away the most aggressive aspect that other brands are betting on and that expresses the speed that defines the sport. A purely aesthetic opinion that is maybe too personal.
That is why I decided to carry out a redesign project of this pair of glasses of the British firm.
The redesign merely consists in a subtle sharpening of its shape more but without losing the essence of the original model.
It was a good way to continue practicing with surfaces in SolidWorks and do some material studies in KeyShot.
Also, it seems that I was not the only one to think that this redesign was necessary. Today, on 05/28/20, I have just seen a preview image of the new Rapha collection, showing the union of the temple with the glass. It is quite similar to the concept that I show here. We will see how is the final result that the brand proposes and how close I have come to it.
